Before July 20, 2025, Charlie Cheng (鄭志愚) was a Christian who was well respected by many brothers and sisters at the church where Pastor Rui (Ray) Yang served. (See the testimonials from Elder Han-Chi Lin, Elder Ricky, Deacon Sandy Mau, the former leader of Group Five, and others.) During his seven years at the church, he had never been subjected to any form of church discipline.
In the early hours of July 21, 2025, Pastor Rui Yang and the Elder Board received Charlie Cheng's withdrawal statement, which he had sent the previous night. The statement clearly explained that he was withdrawing from the church because he had been harmed by Pastor Rui Yang that day, "and because of the disrespect shown toward an elderly person with a disability" (quoted from the original statement).
Later that same morning, an anonymous individual using the name "Batman" posted this internal notice in the "XX Chinese Congregation Co-Workers Group," which had been created by Pastor Rui Yang. From that point forward, a series of public actions that defamed Charlie Cheng's reputation began. Details are provided in the following sections.
